Welcome to Best Home Inspections PLLC
Homeowners and buyers want one thing when they look at a property: peace of mind. A home is one of the biggest purchases most people ever make, and understanding its true condition is essential. Best Home Inspections PLLC provides clear, honest, and complete inspections so clients know exactly what they are walking into. Every inspection covers the full structure, from the foundation to the roof, and includes major systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. One area that is often overlooked in real estate—but can cause the most costly damage—is termite activity.
Termites can cause hidden destruction for years without anyone noticing. They work quietly inside walls, beams, and flooring, leaving homeowners unaware until serious damage appears. That is why termite inspections have become a crucial part of the buying and selling process. Best Home Inspections PLLC takes this responsibility seriously by offering detailed termite evaluations designed to protect your investment long before a problem grows out of control.
Owner Les Thornton built this business on decades of hands-on construction experience. Working in the trades since 1987, Les has seen firsthand how small issues can become large, expensive problems when left unnoticed. His goal has always been simple: provide clients with peace of mind through honest findings, clear explanations, and professional guidance.
Les has a lifetime of experience working with tools, materials, and homes. Early in his career, he built and repaired houses across the Texas Panhandle, learning the ins and outs of carpentry, wiring, plumbing, and general construction. He later transitioned to working on large wind farms, a job that came with high-risk conditions. After two close calls, Les knew it was time to find a safer career path that still allowed him to use his skills and help people.
He decided to become a certified home inspector. Les trained extensively, studied inspection standards, and earned the licenses and certifications needed to serve homeowners at a professional level. In 2018, he founded Best Home Inspections PLLC. Today, he uses his decades of construction knowledge to help families, investors, and sellers understand the true condition of a property in a calm, friendly, and easy-to-understand way.
Termites are small insects, but the damage they create is anything but small. They feed on wood from the inside out, often working silently for years while a home looks perfectly fine on the surface. By the time visible damage appears, the internal structure may already be weakened. This is why termite inspections are so important during real estate transactions—buyers need to know the truth before closing, and sellers need to avoid unexpected surprises.
Les looks for signs most people overlook. This includes termite tubes along the foundation, small piles of frass (termite droppings), bubbling or peeling paint, soft wood, and moisture problems that attract termites. Even minor clues can point to a larger problem hidden within walls or flooring.
The Texas Panhandle has ideal termite conditions. Warm weather, dry winds, and sudden humidity after storms all contribute to termite activity. Many homes in the region rely on wooden framing, which gives termites an easy food source. Les has inspected homes across Amarillo, Canyon, Bushland, and towns throughout the 806 area. Termites are far more common than many homeowners realize, and even newer homes can be affected.
One home looked flawless at first glance. Fresh paint and new carpeting gave the impression of a perfect property. But when Les tapped a baseboard, it sounded hollow. Outside, he found small termite tubes near the foundation. The buyer was stunned. Without the inspection, they would have purchased a home already suffering from hidden termite damage.
In another case, a seller wanted a detached shed included in the sale. Les checked the structure and found soft wood around the door frame. Inside, termite damage was severe. The seller was thankful to learn early so repairs could be made before listing. The shed went from a liability to a selling point.

Les inspects the exterior for termite tubes, damaged siding, wood-soil contact, and moisture areas that attract termites.
He checks baseboards, window trim, attic spaces, and flooring for soft wood, hollow spots, cracks, or bubbling paint.
Termites thrive in dark, damp areas. Crawl spaces, pier beams, and foundation edges are carefully inspected.
Where wood meets concrete or soil, termites often attack first. Les checks these connection points thoroughly.
A complete termite inspection helps buyers and sellers catch problems early—before the repair cost climbs.

Les prepares detailed reports written in plain, easy-to-understand language. If termite evidence is found, he explains whether it is past damage or active infestation and outlines the next steps. Clients appreciate his calm, factual approach.
